Structural Virology
Viruses display a wide diversity of shapes and sizes, called morphologies. In general, viruses are much smaller than bacteria. Even though individually viruses are rather simple, as a group they are exceptionally diverse in both replication strategies and structures. Many viruses are important human pathogens.
Techniques such as x-ray crystallography, NMR and cryo-EM are used to determine viral structures. These structure in-turn are used to develop anti-viral drugs and vaccines.
